A Viewing Spot Steeped in Natural & Human History

Chesil Beach Visitor Centre

Discipline
Architecture and Landscape

Home to a rich and rare ecosystem, the lagoon at Chesil Beach has also witnessed human history such as the testing of the bouncing bomb in the Second World War.  We retrofitted and expanded a utilitarian hut on the site to create a vibrant place of learning for both casual visitors and school parties.  Built to a strict budget, we used semi waste materials such as the stone from a quarry less than a mile away to create a sustainable, durable centre which lies low in the landscape.
