Biophilic Design in Education – Looking Back to Move Forward

Education Estates 2025 reinforced the growing importance of biophilic design in creating healthier learning environments. Concepts like nature-based architecture, Genius Loci, natural light, and nature-inspired materials are not new to us. These principles help address challenges like screen fatigue, attention, and anxiety - issues increasingly relevant in today’s classrooms and they’ve been at the heart of NVB’s work for decades.

Feature projects such as Wootton Bassett Infant’s School demonstrate our focus on integration of landscape and architecture, framing views to immediate and distant landscapes in a rich and diverse school environment.

The phrase “look back to move forward” resonates strongly with us. Good design endures, and biophilic strategies remain central to creating spaces that support health and learning. At NVB, we continue to evolve, ensuring our designs make a meaningful impact on the lives of pupils and educators.
